Human intention in Health

I believe there is some aspect of believing for health to be achieved, and then again I do not think there has to be a belief..it just depends..I know people who just do not want to be healed or attain good health.  We, or others, get addicted to talking about our ailments and living with them.  So many do not even know what good health or state of being even feels like.  If they would start to attain it, what would that mean for them?  What dynamics would change in their life and what kind of choices would they actually have to start making?  Some of this is on a conscious level, but much of it is on a subconscious level.. But anywho, whether in eastern of western medicine, the intention of the person being worked on is a determinant to how quickly the person may recover..then again, maybe not!  Some may heal miraculously overnight, yet even what looks like overnight, may have taken much longer than we know..

Kirlian Photos

Auras already exist, but the human and mind wants to be able to see and explain things.  That seems pretty normal to me, really...Taking pictures of the aura helps a little bit with this.  We like to be able to recognize or grasp something to believe it.  The funny thing is that even when you DO see it, people  (scientists) would like to describe it as something other than an aura, spirit, or whatever..

Acu as Effective Energy Medicine

Acupuncture is an effective energy medicine.  Qi is a big part of acupuncture and some describe Qi as energy.  As acupuncture does move qi/energy, chemically and physically things are affected in the body.  I do feel so many talk about Acu as energy medicine, but I get a little tired of that.  I do and would like to continue to learn ways to describe acupuncture to people in ways they may understand.  It is only semantics, after all, cause acu works regardless of whether you "believe" in it or not! (in my experience, at least...)

Biophysics and OM

From what i've read, biophysics studies molecules and how they work together, how they are transported, etc., in a very specific way.  I don't feel Chinese Medicine is this specific.  We want to know how things work as a whole.  Although things may be broken down into organ patterns and specific symptoms, biophysics seems to be a study of physics and chemistry combined.  Chinese Medicine, unless you are talking about herbs, doesn't have much to do with chemistry.  Somehow, if you looked a little deeper, maybe you could find some connection...OM looks at how food is transported and transformed into energy and different organs involved.  This is just a bigger, broader view than biophysics would ever THINK of being:)

Living Being

I feel I am a living being because I eat, poop, and pee.  I have blood running through my veins and need water and food to sustain me.  I feel I am a living being because I am somewhat able to communicate with my own "species", and well as maybe someday even reproduce.  If I choose to do so, I even have the ability to think and make wonderful choices!  Yes!

Synthesis of East and West

I believe East and West may come together.  People want to believe they are so separate, but we have already studied quantum physics and how the physical and spiritual, or unseen, are very closely related.  Without understanding Western disease and how our bodies function, I do not believe we may understand Qi, meridians, and Eastern medicine.  These two complement one another and both have their place.

E-Prime

From what I have experienced in the mornings past, my spirit feels more calm and happy waking up to classical music instead of NPR.  I think it is due to hearing so much negativity first thing in the morning, although NPR seems to have a broad range of views and programs later in the day.  As my day progresses, I find myself running from one thing to the next...school, work, homework...Although I sometimes feel I have no life, I know I am blessed to have the opportunity to learn things I have always wanted to study!

Reductionism

Reductionism these days is useful in the field of science...biology, chemistry..In these fields it is necessary to break things down into smaller parts for study

Energy Efficient Culture

Difficult in this culture...if you are poor, you cannot afford that energy efficient hybrid..you do what you can, though...turn off lights, don't use the heater..my friend works as manager for an apartment complex and complains how everyone is getting energy efficient fridges, etc...they just throw the old one out!  She goes behind them and makes sure they are donated accordingly...

Newton's Three Laws

I guess I like a few of his laws and a few I don't.  The acceleration of an object is proportional to the force actin on it.  Makes me think about riding my motorcycle and being VERY careful!  Seems to make sense..for every action, there is a reaction...can't move to the left of a boat packed full of people without it getting a little wobbly!

cool experiment

i did the little experiment with flatware..pretty cool..had no idea you could see different images in a simple spoon.  On the convex side, you are right side up, but tiny!  One the concave side, upside down and your face gets distorted the closer you get!  c-Razy!!!  I thought you could only do that at the circus or in my photo thingy on my computer..Getting a tone on a fork was fun, too.  I never thought of using  "fork" like a "tuning fork", only the sound isn't an E.  But hey I'm not complaining..just glad to get any sound out at all!

Consciousness out of Chaos

There is some interconnectedness which lies between our consciousness and the world in which we live.  We tend to direct our lives towards our thoughts and ideas.  The choices we make and how we look at things build on each other and create either unhappiness or peace as our own reality.  When I am more "conscious" of my world and how I am affecting my own happiness, I definitely make better choices within it and things seem to magically align.

Fractals as Complex Patterns

Fractals are a small part of the big picture.  They become more complex the closer you look.  It is amazing how only a small change in a pattern creates an even more elaborate pattern.    Even when patterns in nature seem so simple, it is amazing how much detail lies within.

Ordered chaos

Everything is constantly changing.  When things are too ordered, there is no growth.  When things are only chaotic, there is no growth.  Therefore, it needs to be a balance or both pulling at each other.  Depending on where I am, I view time as ordered or chaotic, although to some it may be opposite.  Like in Guatemala, there was nowhere to be at a certain time.  My internal clock of waking up with the sun and going to bed with the sun seemed so natural.  But here in the US, that would not work.  There needs to be some order around that chaos for things to run "smoothly", although sometimes I do wish for more of an "internal clock" kind of society.  Of course, as soon as I am in this situation, I wish for more order.  It's all about finding that balance..

energy and Qi

These seem very related, yet at times one in the same.  Energy runs through us and has a certain rhythm and force.  Qi helps to moves this energy, but may also BE this energy that keeps things going.  To me, you can feel energy from people and the heat it can produce.  Some people are very aware and are able to see other people's energy around them.  There is a certain movement that may be felt in a room or inside ourselves and Qi helps to keep this movement flowing.

Resonance

I liked reading about how different keys and music itself is so healing.  I know when I sing and play my guitar, it puts me in a different space, a more relaxed state of being.  I feel that when I sing, it resonates with my being and creates some sort of harmony in my physical being and in my mind.  I love to feel this resonance between myself and others, too.  That kind of energy where I feel I "get" people or maybe they see me a little.  When I am in a good space, I feel like my world and the people in it resonate.

vibrations

Vibrations aren't good or bad.  What is good is when the vibration of say, of an earthquake, is a different vibration than the structure and soil the earthquake happens to affect.  What is bad is when the vibrations of the wind or earthquake DO match the structures they come into contact with.  When this occurs, the structures may be damaged.

CP Violation

i believe the CP violation tries to explain the abscence of antimatter in everyday life.  Laws of symmetry to do not apply to the decaying of kaons.  Every particle of matter cannot be mirrored with a particle of antimatter or they would always destroy each other.  There is speculation as to why more matter showed up after the big bang and not more antimatter.  I am not sure either as to why this was, but am trying to understand that somehow there cannot be a mirror to all things in this universe.

My symmetrical world

I was very interested in Fibonacci's ratios.  Spirals in nature are something I can relate to, as I do love plants.  This golden ratio measures that growth and it is so amazing to study how this growth pattern is the same throughout nature.  Even though it is not totally symmetrical, I see my body as such and tend to see things in this way.  I like for a room in my house to feel symmetrical or balanced in some way.  I also liked learning how Leonardo de Vinci applied these rules and ratios in his paintings.

sacred geometry and physics

There are definite connections for me bet. geometry and physics.  We see "sacred" geometry every day in the spirals of plants, patterns of snowflakes and crystals, our own DNA, and the list goes on.  Physics tries and does a pretty good job of somehow being able to measure these patterns through different mathematical equations.  I marvel while studying the I Ching, how numbers and patterns of physics possibly seem to be so involved, yet this is a sacred/spiritual aspect of my life.  I cannot deny seeing these patterns and being astounded when I pay attention to this and to how many objects or particles ring true for following many patterns of sacred geometry.

gravity

I would've never guess gravity was the weakest of all 4 forces.  Making one's hair stand on end never occured to me that that was how weak gravity could be.  Yet everything depends on gravity. Gravity holds everything on earth in place and in that respect seems very strong.  It is hard for me to see outside of our earth and realize gravity is only strong in relation to myself and not the entire universe!

four forces

If gravity always attracts, electromagnetism may repel or attract, these are more related and interactive since electromagnetism is what holds atoms together.  Weak and strong nuclear forces are more difficult to understand, only knowing they help hold protons and neutrons in the nucleus.  These four forces seem to be one in the same.  To me, it is simply profound how these forces work together to keep the universe in alignment and balanced.

e=mc2

This has affected me by helping me realize things do carry energy and affect other matter. When I think of matter and energy being interrelated, I automatically think of our bodies as matter and the energy that must exude when our bodies are no more.  It makes me think that that energy has to go somewhere, right?  I do wonder where that energy goes and in what form that energy would be.  I don't really believe in an afterlife, but e=mc2 proves something of the sort to me.

Connectivity

It's hard not to believe we are all connected.  The actions of once person does affect another at some level.  The little things we do whether it's recycling or being kind to a stranger on the street or a friend have a ripple effect.  Someone losing there home affects everyone on that street.  Our energy and the way we interact in class affects the energy in the entire room.  Sometimes I may feel small, like we are not connected, then something happens like a homeless man who yells at me before I drive off with the hose in my gas tank and we have an awesome conversation that makes my day.  The little things make a difference!

synchronicity

Evidence for synchronicity...When I pay attention, I find evidence everyday of synchronicity.  When I look for the little things, somehow things are always connected.  If I am in a funk, I do not notice it.  But, like I said, when I pay attention and feel good, things seem to fall into place..this may be that my schedule works out perfectly, I have exactly the right amount of change for Bart, my brother calls me just when I am finished doing my homework and I have the time to talk...These things may be large or they may be small, but I cannot help but believe all these things are connected and are happening everyday as evidence of synchronicity.

response..I liked Jeon Hee's response to "Is the Universe Weird?"  I like how she said the universe is honest and simple..it is fun to contemplate the universe and complicate things, but like she said, things continue to grow even on their own and in a way, the universe is simple and just keeps on ticking...

Week Two

Reflections on UNCERTAINTY...It is a major dichotomy of things that are certain, and things that are uncertain.  We know the earth spins on an axis, which planets exist in our solar system..things are so certain these days that we basically have maps for anywhere we would like to travel, where we will hike according to weather being predicted, and whether our unborn babies will be male or female.  At the same time, the weather for tomorrow may totally turn out to be incorrect.  The flu vaccine given every year is based on last year's data and incorrect for new strains of the flu that have come out since.  Not basic principles, but things like the "Big Bang" theory and other discoveries are uncertain because new discoveries are always being made and old theories are always being modified.  We could die tomorrow due to health, the instability of a neighbor, or due to natural disaster.  I don't relate to these things as scare tactics and reasons not to live my life, but reasons TO live my life.  Life and the universe being uncertain is what make OUR lives so interesting.

CAUSALITY...I believe we ARE causing things into existence by the way we observe them.  After returning from Guatemala and having lived there for 4 months, I observed that the books I read concerning the Maya people in the region were not quite similar to the experiences I was having and people I met.  How could so many non-Maya living in the small barrios not bring to pass the things they wrote would happen.  My point is that there is always cause and effect, and we cannot remove ourselves or be totally neutral no matter how hard we try.  I believe that to a certain extent, we control through our own actions, what our futures will hold.  Whether we do this consciously or unconsciously, we make choices that affect our lives on a daily basis, the near distant future, and especially lives of our children and generations to come.

Is the UNIVERSE WEIRD?  I think so...from weird black matter that is matter, but we cannot see it because it does not reflect light but makes up 80% of matter or something crazy like that?  to weird crazy fishies that live in the deepest, darkest depths of the ocean, to aliens that may or may not exist..I guess I've never thought of the universe as being weird, but from Saturn to supernovae..so many unexplainable things about it don't exactly make it "normal".  But then, what is normal?  Who knows...with how beautiful our universe is, including our constellations, shooting stars, moon and tides... it is possibly the least weird in our galaxy.

Thoughts on First Class Discussion Meaning of time

I was sad to have missed this first discussion, but I feel time is so relative to the person and where they are in life.  I never looked at time being reversible, but to me it seems it almost may be, especially through the psychological arrow.  I know I always wish I had more time, but know I at time manage it horribly, then it simply FEELS like I do not have enough time.  When I am in a good space in my life, I seem to have more time and time is on my side.  When trauma occurs, time seems to let me down and to never give me enough of it:)
Thoughts on Quantum mechanics...The fact that light is made up of both waves AND particles fascinates me.  I have always believed that things/experiments change and are influenced by the one doing the experiment.  But, the fact the particles DO change when they are observed is incredible.  To me, there has always been an aspect of spirituality in quantum mechanics.  The way we may affect matter...The uncertainty principle really resonates with the way I feel not everything may be explained, but some things may be.

Have I experienced "slowing down" or "speeding up" of time?

I feel I have experienced "slowing down" of time during the few car accidents I have had in my life.  During those few minutes as things were actually happening, it seemed the world stood still and I saw my life and the events that were taking place in slow motion.  Speeding up of time seems to happen when I am having a blast with my friends!

What do I honestly think of Physics, really?

I hadn't thought about Physics since 1993(physics class in high school) until "What the Bleep". Seeing this movie inspired me, although I have to admit it was a bit cheezy.  This did simplify things for me a bit.  Also, I had never heard of quantum physics before this film and tried to read Molecules of Emotion afterward.  I had a really hard time understanding the science behind it, although I loved the ideas!  So, although this class is challenging for me, I am excited to try to understand a bit more about the universe.

1. What Attracts me to Chinese Medicine?

I am a massage therapist and wanted more ways to help people on a deeper level.  I feel massage manipulates more on a surface level and that Chinese medicine helps on a deeper level if you choose to use it for such.  I love the idea of being able to affect the meridians, learning different points, and also the use of herbs.  As I go through school I realize there are many more aspects to Chinese medicine than I ever dreamed.  I love having choices of massage, moxa, needles, ear stimulation, and herbs to help people actually help themselves.
