Connectivity
It's hard not to believe we are all connected. The actions of once person does affect another at some level. The little things we do whether it's recycling or being kind to a stranger on the street or a friend have a ripple effect. Someone losing there home affects everyone on that street. Our energy and the way we interact in class affects the energy in the entire room. Sometimes I may feel small, like we are not connected, then something happens like a homeless man who yells at me before I drive off with the hose in my gas tank and we have an awesome conversation that makes my day. The little things make a difference!
synchronicity
Evidence for synchronicity...When I pay attention, I find evidence everyday of synchronicity. When I look for the little things, somehow things are always connected. If I am in a funk, I do not notice it. But, like I said, when I pay attention and feel good, things seem to fall into place..this may be that my schedule works out perfectly, I have exactly the right amount of change for Bart, my brother calls me just when I am finished doing my homework and I have the time to talk...These things may be large or they may be small, but I cannot help but believe all these things are connected and are happening everyday as evidence of synchronicity.

response..I liked Jeon Hee's response to "Is the Universe Weird?" I like how she said the universe is honest and simple..it is fun to contemplate the universe and complicate things, but like she said, things continue to grow even on their own and in a way, the universe is simple and just keeps on ticking...

Week Two
Reflections on UNCERTAINTY...It is a major dichotomy of things that are certain, and things that are uncertain. We know the earth spins on an axis, which planets exist in our solar system..things are so certain these days that we basically have maps for anywhere we would like to travel, where we will hike according to weather being predicted, and whether our unborn babies will be male or female. At the same time, the weather for tomorrow may totally turn out to be incorrect. The flu vaccine given every year is based on last year's data and incorrect for new strains of the flu that have come out since. Not basic principles, but things like the "Big Bang" theory and other discoveries are uncertain because new discoveries are always being made and old theories are always being modified. We could die tomorrow due to health, the instability of a neighbor, or due to natural disaster. I don't relate to these things as scare tactics and reasons not to live my life, but reasons TO live my life. Life and the universe being uncertain is what make OUR lives so interesting.
CAUSALITY...I believe we ARE causing things into existence by the way we observe them. After returning from Guatemala and having lived there for 4 months, I observed that the books I read concerning the Maya people in the region were not quite similar to the experiences I was having and people I met. How could so many non-Maya living in the small barrios not bring to pass the things they wrote would happen. My point is that there is always cause and effect, and we cannot remove ourselves or be totally neutral no matter how hard we try. I believe that to a certain extent, we control through our own actions, what our futures will hold. Whether we do this consciously or unconsciously, we make choices that affect our lives on a daily basis, the near distant future, and especially lives of our children and generations to come.
Is the UNIVERSE WEIRD? I think so...from weird black matter that is matter, but we cannot see it because it does not reflect light but makes up 80% of matter or something crazy like that? to weird crazy fishies that live in the deepest, darkest depths of the ocean, to aliens that may or may not exist..I guess I've never thought of the universe as being weird, but from Saturn to supernovae..so many unexplainable things about it don't exactly make it "normal". But then, what is normal? Who knows...with how beautiful our universe is, including our constellations, shooting stars, moon and tides... it is possibly the least weird in our galaxy.
Thoughts on First Class Discussion Meaning of time
I was sad to have missed this first discussion, but I feel time is so relative to the person and where they are in life. I never looked at time being reversible, but to me it seems it almost may be, especially through the psychological arrow. I know I always wish I had more time, but know I at time manage it horribly, then it simply FEELS like I do not have enough time. When I am in a good space in my life, I seem to have more time and time is on my side. When trauma occurs, time seems to let me down and to never give me enough of it:)
Thoughts on Quantum mechanics...The fact that light is made up of both waves AND particles fascinates me. I have always believed that things/experiments change and are influenced by the one doing the experiment. But, the fact the particles DO change when they are observed is incredible. To me, there has always been an aspect of spirituality in quantum mechanics. The way we may affect matter...The uncertainty principle really resonates with the way I feel not everything may be explained, but some things may be.
Have I experienced "slowing down" or "speeding up" of time?
I feel I have experienced "slowing down" of time during the few car accidents I have had in my life. During those few minutes as things were actually happening, it seemed the world stood still and I saw my life and the events that were taking place in slow motion. Speeding up of time seems to happen when I am having a blast with my friends!
What do I honestly think of Physics, really?
I hadn't thought about Physics since 1993(physics class in high school) until "What the Bleep". Seeing this movie inspired me, although I have to admit it was a bit cheezy. This did simplify things for me a bit. Also, I had never heard of quantum physics before this film and tried to read Molecules of Emotion afterward. I had a really hard time understanding the science behind it, although I loved the ideas! So, although this class is challenging for me, I am excited to try to understand a bit more about the universe.
1. What Attracts me to Chinese Medicine?
I am a massage therapist and wanted more ways to help people on a deeper level. I feel massage manipulates more on a surface level and that Chinese medicine helps on a deeper level if you choose to use it for such. I love the idea of being able to affect the meridians, learning different points, and also the use of herbs. As I go through school I realize there are many more aspects to Chinese medicine than I ever dreamed. I love having choices of massage, moxa, needles, ear stimulation, and herbs to help people actually help themselves.
